Pics - Wednesday - Part I

Wednesday was the real start to the official events in many ways.  The Technical Computer Applications competition started at 8:00 and ran until 2:00.  Also, the opening ceremonies were held during the evening at Kemper Arena.  It was a day filled with near misses as we raced the clock, but in the end everything seems to have gone by without any problems.

JonF (Jon Freeman) setting up on the first day of competition!  This was a group project and he worked with three other contestants to create a business proposal / analysis and submit it via Google Docs.

Intense JonF doing his magic with the computer.

Intense thought required!

The Computer Programming contest - directly alongside the TCA competition area.

Yay!  Internetworking!  For those who are in the know, this is an amazing competition.  The Cisco team puts on a first class event every year.

Internetworking students dive into programming and configuring the gear.  Looks like some console programming going on...

Some closer looks at the console programming.  Yep, that sure is IOS.

This is new this year - a person makes a technical support call to a contestant using videoconferencing / VoIP.  This was remarkable to watch in action.  Very well done!

Computer Maintenance Technology (CMT) competition area with competitors looking quite absorbed.  One competitor told a judge in frustration "I have no idea what's wrong... I didn't even know this kind of thing could happen!"  That shows the level of competition here!

Some of the nice bling that the CMT winners can expect to receive.

Speaking of contest bling, the Internetworking competition has some nice geek gear too!

3D Visualization and Animation competition.  This is also impressive to watch.  The sophistication of the design tools and the project planning make this fun to see.

This speaks for itself, but it looks like contestants hadn't arrived for orientation yet.

The Electronics Technology competition area.  Lots of different circuits to test, measure, and troubleshoot.
